Prof. Wong’s intro to NEC and NUS Enterprise, 10th September, 2014

In this talk, Prof. Wong Poh Kam, the director of NUS Entrepreneurship Center, introduced NUS Enterprise as a whole, and his own center to the MBA students. Prof. Wong talked about various functions of NUS Enterprise, the grants available for budding startups, as well as NOC overseas program for entreprenurs. There was participation from all programs such as Full-Time MBA, Part-Time MBA, UCLA EMBA, APEX EMBA, Exchange students, CEMS students.

Networking Session with students from Hong Kong, 7th October, 2014

40 Students from HKU, HKUST, CHKU, and PolyU networked with the MBA cohort. The students were mostly entrepreneurs or entrepreneurially inclined. Along with that, senior batch MBAs and alums presented their companies in front of the audience, to share information about the Singaporean startup ecosystem. The students built a good network during the session, and it was a relaxed casual evening over dinner. The evening was hosted by Mr. Nikhil Kapur, President, Entrepreneurship Club.

Talk by Mr. Ike Lee, 8th October, 2014

Mr. Ike Lee, a serial entrepreneur and VC from Silicon Valley came to the business school along with Prof Wong Poh Kam. Mr Ike Lee has been part of 7 IPOs in the US and in the talk, he touched upon his own experience in setting up his different companies, the challenges he faced, and strategies to implement while working on a global startup. One of his key points (as basic as it may sound) was to keep smiling, and good things will happen. Post the talk and Q&A, there was a networking dinner between Mr. Lee and the MBAs. The session was coordinated by Mr. Nikhil Kapur (President, Entrepreneurship Club) and Mr. Liang Lu (Ex-Co, Entrepreneurship Club).

GlobalStartup @ Singapore with Mr. Ming Lei, 10th October, 2014

Mr. Ming Lei, cofounder of Baidu and now founder of Kuwo, a leading digital online music company, came to give a talk to the biz school as part of Global Startup @ Singapore, a collaboration between NUS Enterprise and NUS Business School. The session was attended by prominent media people, Mr. Lee, Prof. Yeung, Prof. Fu Qiang (Associate Dean of China Business Centre), and Prof. Kam. The Q&A session was moderated by Prof. Wong, and the emcee was NikhilKapur, president of the Entrepreneurship Club.

Mr. Lei talked about how to setup a 200 mn user startup, the key learnings, focus, his own experience, marketing strategies and a lot of other knowledgeable info. Post the session there was a networking lunch.
