BUSINESS CASE COMPETITIONS –
PIT YOURSELF AGAINST OTHERS
One of the distinct benefits of participation in case competitions is that it offers opportunities for the MBAs to hone their leadership skills, as well as to demonstrate the mastery and application of their knowledge and business principles to real-life business challenges. Additionally, MBAs will get to network among their peers from other top business schools around the world as well as business leaders from leading global organisations.
Here at the NUS Business School, with the objective of ensuring the continuous development of our students even out of the classroom, we offer many opportunities for our MBAs to engage in active and robust intellectual exchanges through participation in a wide variety of case competitions in the region as well as overseas. The MBA Teams are mentored by faculty members of the School who are seasoned coaches for case competitions. Below is a glimpse of some of the competitions that our NUS MBAs actively participate in.
GLOBAL NETWORK FOR ADVANCED MANAGEMENT INVESTMENT COMPETITION
Each team submits a portfolio of five investment ideas from their school’s region, accompanied by pitches for each of the selections. This year, 24 teams from sixteen schools competed in the 2019-2020 GNAM Investment Competition. NUS Business School has held the Championship title in 2016 & 2017 and additionally, came in second place for the Stock Performance Prize in 2017.
THE VENTURE CAPITAL INVESTMENT COMPETITION
Unlike business plan competitions in which students pitch their own ideas to investors, at VCIC the students are the investors, and real entrepreneurs pitch to them. The competition is first held at the regional level whereby champions from these regional competitions travel to Chapel Hill, NC, to compete in the Global Finals, where the top team takes home USD$5,000 in prize money.
SIAM COMMERCIAL BANK FUTURE LEADER CHALLENGE
The competition offers the participants a real-life learning platform in a dynamic environment. Participants will be challenged to push their limits by a team of judges which include top business leaders, industry experts and academic professionals. In addition to establishing and growing their global network of contacts, they also benefit from cross-cultural immersion and exchange with the local and international participants from other Schools. NUS Business School has won the first prize and the H.M.The King of Thailand Royal Award in 2018. We have been selected as the finalist teams every year following that.
ROLAND BERGER CASE COMPETITION
NUS MBA is a journey of self discovery, culture immersion and leadership improvement. The most valuable asset I learnt is “leading from who you are”.
