Academic Core

In today’s world, major disruptive forces are creating challenges for all business. At the same time, these forces also create numerous opportunities. This course deals with major techniques and approaches to the development and implementation of strategy for firms competing domestically and internationally. The class will explore the underlying concepts, analytical techniques, and evaluation of strategic options that form the basis for strategic analysis and action. The course will introduce key concepts and explore the reasons for the success and failure of businesses in an era of global competition. The course teaches concepts applicable to firms around the world, with a special emphasis to small and large companies based in Asia.

This is an introductory course that aims to provide a strong conceptual foundation for finance. Finance theory will be used to solve practical problems faced by financial managers.

This course will address different social entities that leaders encounter, and offers an extensive examination of leadership in and outside organisations. It aims to provide a set of experiences that are designed to enhance your self-awareness and capacity for effective leadership.

The course stresses the theory of accounts, generally accepted accounting principles, and the interpretation of financial statements. The perspective of the course is that of managers and investors as knowledgeable users of accounting information.

The objective of this course is to provide a rigorous foundation in economic theory for analyzing the key managerial decision problems of firms and other economic organisations. The course develops the analytic tools of microeconomic theory for modeling the economic behaviour of economic agents (consumers, firms, asset owners etc.) and the functioning of markets, and shows how these tools can be applied to deal with problems of practical relevance to managers. The course takes a "modernist" approach, incorporating recent theoretical developments such as transaction costs theory, markets with asymmetric information, principal-agent models to enhance the student's appreciation of the analytic power and practical applicability of economic theory.

Marketing Strategy is the process of planning and executing the conception, pricing, promotion, and distribution of goods, services, and ideas to create exchanges with target groups to satisfy customer and organizational objectives. It involves analyzing the environment to identify opportunities, and developing marketing strategies and programs to exploit such opportunities. This introductory course aims to impart marketing concepts and tools that may be applied to solve various problems in marketing strategy. It also provides an Asian perspective to the marketing strategy process.

Operations refers to the collection of actions that a firm takes to channel its resources into outputs (products/services) of value. Although not every manager will have direct control over a firm’s operating processes, all managers are, invariably, indirect stakeholders in the operations of a firm, its subsidiaries, and/or its partners. This course aims to equip students to understand of the processes of a firm in order to assess its operations thoughtfully, identify root causes of operational failure, and develop recommendations using analytics as a means of structured decision-making, with the ultimate goal of achieving impactful and sustainable operational improvement.

Leading individuals, groups, and organizations effectively is key to managerial excellence. Yet, it could be the most difficult challenge as a professional. This course is designed to help students meet this challenge. There will be discussions of different elements of leadership and considering the stage of career students are in, a focus on becoming self-aware and recognize the challenges to leading others. The course combines self-awareness and building tools and techniques to leverage authority and power that are critical to be successful as leaders.

Experiential Core

Master the power of influencing others to become a better leader. Kick off your transformative journey with this high-energy, high-impact, intensive 5-day boot camp. Through facilitated role-playing exercises, you’ll receive instant, constructive feedback, and emerge with stronger communication and influencing skills which you can apply across a range of personal and professional situations.

The MBA survival kit aims equip students with essential skills in preparation for the capstone MBA Consulting Project. Shifting away from a task-based / process-oriented mindset, students will be guided to develop an outcome-oriented / problem-solving approach, through case analysis, consult sessions and self-reflection. The course culminates in a weekend bootcamp that challenges students to solve a real-world business problem, by presenting to a live client confidently with coherent storyboards and visual aids.

Apply what you have learnt to solve a business problem or tap into growth opportunities. Working in small teams and closely with key business stakeholders, you will research and analyse issues and recommend a comprehensive, in-depth, strategic business plan that incorporates financial, marketing, operational and strategic recommendations.

This intensive, hands-on course takes place over 3-4 months (a total of 130 hours), and has offered over 300 projects across 12 different industries with more than 150 companies in sectors including Fintech, Banking & Finance, Consulting & Professional Services, Technology, Hospitality & Tourism, Industrial Engineering/Manufacturing, FMCG, and Retail.

Singapore enjoys strong economic and political ties with China, an economic powerhouse and global hub for manufacturing and exporting. Delivered in partnership with Peking University—China’s highest ranked university—this double degree prepares students to harness the multiple benefits of a rising Asia. The programme begins in Beijing with an academic year at Peking University’s Guanghua School of Management and continues in Singapore for the second year.

  • The China National MBA Entrance Exam (中国管理类专业硕士联考) is required for applicants who are holding a Chinese PRC passport.

The Master of Advanced Management (MAM) is a highly selective programme that enables outstanding students to further their academic and professional development at one of the world’s most acclaimed universities. NUS MBA students may apply for the programme during their first year at NUS. Held from mid-August through May on Yale’s stunning New Haven campus, the programme provides students with the knowledge, resources, and relationships to lead in a complex and interconnected global marketplace.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admission to the Master of Advanced Management program (MAM) is available to students who either (1) are enrolled in Global Network for Advanced Management member schools and expect to receive their MBA degree or equivalent before matriculating at Yale or (2) have recently graduated from a Global Network for Advanced Management member school with an MBA or equivalent degree.

Yale SOM may admit exceptional students from the Global Network for Advanced Management member schools who have not yet completed their MBA or equivalent degree provided:

  1. The student has satisfactorily completed the required MBA (or equivalent) core curriculum;
  2. The Global Network school where the student is enrolled in the MBA (or equivalent) program will count credits earned at Yale as part of the MAM program toward the MBA (or equivalent) degree; or;
  3. The student will have completed the MBA (or equivalent) program and obtained the respective degree prior to completing the MAM degree at Yale.

Application to the Yale MAM is open only to existing NUS MBA students. Interested applicants are required to submit their application via NUS Business School, MBA Programmes Office.
