With The NUS MBA, Joe was empowered as the Vice President of the Students’ Council to grow into a better leader. He also successfully made his break in the Venture Capital (VC) investment industry without any prior Finance experience or educational background.
Here, we learn how The NUS MBA has shaped him into a better leader and developed his financial acumen

How did you take advantage of the learning opportunities to achieve your personal & professional goals?

I have gained extensive knowledge and skills in Finance and Investment. It helped to build a solid foundation necessary for me to switch to the Venture Capital industry from a non-finance background. Without the learnings from those electives, I would not have had the opportunity to enter the area where I am now. I have also transformed myself personally through the experience of being the Vice President of the Students’ Council. Not only did I receive much satisfaction by serving the cohort, but also, I built up confidence on many fronts. This experience prepared me well to become a true leader in my career.

What was the most memorable experience you had?

One of the most memorable experiences during my MBA journey was my MBA Consulting Project with Goldman Sachs. I had a great team with diverse backgrounds and clear strengths. Though the project was super tough, we really held each other's hands until completion. The learning was hard to earn but what's more important was the friendships we built.

How useful were the experiential learning components for you?

In a nutshell, the single most transformational experience for me was Launch Your Transformation. That was the beginning of all the amazing things that happened to me during my MBA journey. It helped me put down all barriers in my mind and I started to relook at myself and understand myself better. Without the LYT bootcamp, I would not have made so many friends, run for Vice President, ventured into venture capital, and transformed myself from inside out.
